PHOENIX ADUs - THE WAY OF THE FUTURE
The City of Phoenix stands on the verge of significant changes that will transform the inner-city residential landscape. Proposals are underway to potentially alter zoning ordinances, allowing for the inclusion of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). If approved, this change would unlock greater flexibility on existing lots, enabling the creation of multi-generational or co-living housing options, as well as opportunities for smaller-footprint living and income generation.
Accessory Dwelling Units, or ADUs, represent secondary residential units situated on the same property as the primary single-family home. These units are self-contained living spaces, which can be either attached or detached from the main home, functioning as tiny homes with their own kitchens, bathrooms, entrances, and living spaces.
Recently, I had the privilege of touring a project by Minimal Living Concepts (MLC), which has been at the forefront of constructing these small dwellings and studios in the metro area, completing over 75 projects to date. Ranging from the compact 322sf Flex model to the more spacious 1,178sf Dwell model, these contemporary structures are fully customizable to suit both lot specifications and individual preferences. However, the true magic lies in MLC's streamlined process, which eliminates guesswork and minimizes decision fatigue. All models are pre-designed down to the appliances, giving them a distinct advantage in terms of construction speed.
