SAUVAGE - A BOTTLE SHOP + WINE BAR
As natural wines are making their way to the top of the casual wine choice list, Sauvage has some of the best on rotation. Housed in the historic Helen Anderson House, this hip bottle shop offers all the comforts of home with its old-house charm, featuring casual armchairs, couches, and dining tables scattered about to encourage the ability to linger and savor each sip. There's always new bottles to explore, and for those who love surprises, there's "The Wine Well," a monthly subscription of bottles they're obsessed with, including some exclusive bottles not available anywhere else in the state.
The Architecture: The Helen Anderson House stands as an excellent example of the English Cottage Revival Style, cementing its spot in Phoenix's architectural history since its addition to the National Register of Historic Places. Built circa 1920, it occupies the northeast corner of 3rd Ave & McDowell Rd -amidst several historic Phoenix neighborhoods. With wood shingled rolled eves, and waving butt lines that mimic a thatch roof, it exudes a fairy-tale-like ambiance, which is quite distinctive from the typical architectural landscape of the desert.
Cheers to unique finds!
