MAIL.BOX.ART No.7 – ZUE STEVENSON Zue Stevenson is a still life and figurative painter living in the Pacific Northwest. Her work can be found online at zuestevenson.com | IG: @zuepaintings Artist Statement: I work largely with the figure, yet as of late exploring more abstract methods of representation. I am drawn I believe we all create a visual history for ourselves by what we look at and live with every day. An original piece of art can enrich this history by enlivening the space around it with color, beauty, and emotion. My women paintings showcase that quiet and powerful moment when a person is connected to their own inner life, engaged with their own thoughts and connected to their sense of self. They are content as they are. There is peace in that contentment. Living with art is as enriching and meaningful as making it. I love when a painting finds a home and becomes part of someone else's visual history. I started the MAIL.BOX.ART PROJECT as a way to share my passion for art and support independent artists. She was also picked as one of the artists for General Public Art and her work was featured at Restoration Hardware. I am drawn to positive/negative space, mysteriousness, and intimacy, wanting the viewer to make their own interpretation. I studied drawing and illustration in school and I'm a self-taught painter. I prefer oils, I love the spontaneity of the paint and using color to create space. I grew up in the Midwest but longed to see the bigger world. I have lived in Paris, New York, Minneapolis, and currently Portland, Oregon, I look forward to finding the next place in this world to live and explore I started the MAIL.BOX.ART project as a way to support artists and share my love for art with my clients and friends.
